Petal Soufflé is inspired by the ever-blooming landscape of Marlborough. After spending the last decade in Europe, I was so surprised to find that no matter what season it was here, there were always flowers or beautiful leaves to be found. What a delight!
I would notice a beautiful bloom, an interesting leaf, or a combination of colours and find myself thinking about it long after. From conversations with friends about gardens, beautiful books of blooms, to the sweet scent of florals, I became completely immersed in this new love of gardens.
How could I not capture some of that in a painting?
Petal Soufflé is my response. Still in my usual abstract style and with my familiar colour palette, something new began to emerge, a shape somewhere between a petal and a leaf. Trying to capture its essence, I worked with translucency, gestural marks, soft texture and patterns to create movement and rhythm. Layers upon layers build up, creating a feeling of abundance.
For me, this painting is really about the joy of discovering something you love in a new place. Flowers, gardens, colour and all those little details that suddenly become part of your everyday life.
Petal Soufflé is a one of a kind original abstract artwork, completed in 2026.
Mixed media on canvas, 80×80cm, with a gallery wrap edge of 4.5cm. Includes fluorescent pigments.
The composition extends around the edges, allowing the piece to feel complete whether displayed unframed or framed in a raw beech tray frame for a clean, contemporary float presentation. See FRAMING below.
Signed on the side, with the artwork title, year of completion, and artist name recorded on the back.
Ready to hang in your chosen space.
Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
A note
Colours may vary slightly from what you see on screen due to differences in device displays and lighting. Each painting holds its own presence, with tone, texture, and subtle shifts in colour best experienced in person. Works that include fluorescent pigments carry a vibrancy that is often difficult to fully capture in photography, appearing more luminous in real life.
Interior mock-ups are intended as a guide and may not always be to scale. Objects and furnishings shown are not included.
Framing shown is for presentation purposes, offering a sense of how the work may sit within a space.
Each purchase is for a single artwork. Any additional pieces shown in images are for display and styling purposes only.
